Spectrum News 1- The puck drops on the 11 Day Power Play, a fundraiser in Buffalo to fight cancer, on Thursday, June 20.
Teams will hit the ice at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo for 11 continuous straight days of hockey.
Co-founder Amy Lesakowski and crew are getting ready to host 2,500 hockey players and volunteers.
Amy herself is part of the inspiration behind the annual event. Diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer back in 2009, she had a successful recovery thanks to Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Amy and her husband Mike, whose mother had lung cancer, wanted to give back — and the 11 Day Power play was born.
The event has raised more than $10 million for cancer research over the past seven years.
